Most Internet development companies focus on the appearance of their sites. While this may be visually appealing it avoids the unpleasant issue that most sites do not achieve their fiscal goals (if indeed there were any established at the onset of the project). At JFD we believe that a positive Return On Investment (ROI) is the best measurement for any business endeavor. Therefore we have decided to feature several of our client's sites in detail, rather than simply display 20 or 30 home page graphics.
Muir Orthopedic Specialists is a full service orthopedic care facility with multiple locations in northern California. Their website is a true second generation website that was designed with three goals in mind: reduce operating costs, educate and convert new patients and increase market share.
Market Share Growth
A major goal of the site is to grow market share (new patients) by providing a friendly, educational experience, that converts visitors into patients. Utilizing the latest e-patient studies to determine customer motivating factors, information is provided in sequence to build confidence in the institution, then it's services and capabilities and finally the physicians and their areas of expertise. The organization is also marketed as a full service facility that provides diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation under one roof. This appeals to the patient from a continuity of care standpoint and to the insurer from an efficiency and cost containment perspective. (New patient conversion and revenue growth information is client confidential)
Cost Savings
The site is HIPPA compliant, supporting several encrypted forms that gather patient registration, insurance information, appointment requests and more. Submitted forms are retrieved through an intranet operated by their staff. An Online documents library provides access to a wide variety of patient education brochures. Brochure downloads are in excess of 1400 per quarter which represents a printing/handling/postage cost savings of over $10,000 per year. Documented cost savings for the online forms are in excess of $100,000 per year and growing. The site paid for itself within 4 months through cost reductions alone.
Marketing and Positioning
The initial site implementation was crafted so that Google searches for "Muir Orthopedic" or "Muir Orthopedic Specialists" resulted in page 1 rankings. A new project is underway to provide similar results for searches on the top 24 orthopedic conditions (total hip replacement, tennis elbow, etc).
Acknowledgements
The site was built using Microsoft Technologies, is hosted in a Windows environment and won the EMarketing Association (eMA) Site of the Year Award.
Davis Street Family Resource Center
The DSFRC is a multi-service family support agency serving over 10,000 families in the northern California bay area. This new website was designed to support four major goals. To provide information and access to services for those in need, to allow a wide range of online methods for submitting donations, to provide a means for interested parties to volunteer their time and services and lastly to supply current news and information about ongoing projects to their supporters and affiliates.
With annual donations in excess of $7 million dollars their previous website had no provision for processing online transactions. This required telephone/mail/handling costs to process donations averaging $50.00 each. The new site provides 4 ways to donate online, all of which are available around the clock, 7 days a week. As traffic patterns stabilize the most popular methods will be further automated to reduce handling costs even more.
Similarly, as an organization that utilizes a large volunteer force, their last site had no provision for attracting new volunteers.
